Parish President

Our Parish President

Mitch Orgeron

Archie Chaisson, III—a native of Colorado Springs, CO and resident of Lockport—graduated from Central Lafourche High School in 2003. After graduation, he attended and graduated from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Management.

Mitch Orgeron serves as the Parish President of Lafourche Parish, bringing to the role a deep understanding of local government operations, decades of professional experience, and a commitment to public service. He works to ensure that parish operations run efficiently, decisions are made with transparency, and every action taken reflects the needs and priorities of residents.

A lifelong resident of Lafourche Parish, Mitch was born at Lady of the Sea Hospital and raised in Cut Off. He graduated from South Lafourche High School before earning an Associate Degree in Safety Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Nicholls State University. He later completed the Nicholls Executive Master of Business Administration program, graduating with honors, a testament to his dedication to lifelong learning and leadership development.

Before entering public service, Mitch built a successful career in the oilfield industry. Starting as a deck hand and roustabout, he advanced to Director of Safety and Human Resources for a marine company in Lafourche Parish. His background in safety, human resources, and organizational leadership gave him the skills to manage complex operations, address workforce needs, and ensure accountability.

Within Lafourche Parish Government, Mitch has been directly involved in projects that improve infrastructure, strengthen community services, and position the parish for long-term growth. He believes in using data and technology to modernize operations, from improving drainage response times to equipping field supervisors with tools that allow them to work more efficiently. His leadership reflects a forward-thinking approach while keeping the everyday needs of residents at the forefront.

Mitch also values the culture that makes Lafourche Parish unique. He credits his grandfather for teaching him about the parish’s history, traditions, and values. Growing up, he spent time fishing, trawling, and hunting, learning the importance of hard work, family, and community. Faith, food, the French language, and local customs are cornerstones of life in Lafourche, and he is committed to preserving these traditions while guiding the parish toward a strong future.

Outside of his official responsibilities, Mitch enjoys fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He treasures Sunday lunches spent cooking with his uncle and grandmother, a tradition that blends food, family, and conversation. He also invests in personal growth through leadership study, self-reflection, and faith to stay grounded in his values.

In every part of his role as Parish President, Mitch is guided by a simple mission: to serve the people of Lafourche Parish with integrity, openness, and a vision for a strong and vibrant future.
