Pictured below are two of the Veterans Memorial Monuments located in Lafourche Parish: the Heroes Monument in Thibodaux and the Veterans Memorial District in Cut Off. The Heroes Monument Commission in Thibodaux is looking to add 4 members to its board if you are interested in serving, please check out our Parish website by clicking the link below.
The purpose of the Heroes’ Monument Commission shall be to:
(1) Help maintain the many monuments and memorials currently dedicated to policemen, firefighters, and veterans.
(2) Help organize celebrations recognizing heroes, such as Veterans Day parades, Memorial Day observations, etc.
(3) Evaluate the need for additional activities and monuments which commend policemen, firefighters, and veterans.
(4) Grant approval to individuals and/or groups wishing to modify any existing public monuments.
The heroes’ monument commission shall be comprised of nine members, all of which shall be electors domiciled outside of Ward 10; and five of which shall be honorably discharged veterans of a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces; two members shall have been employed as a commission police officer for a minimum of five years; and two members shall have served as a firefighter for a minimum of five years.
These are the current vacancies for the Heroes Monument Commission:
2 – Commissioned Police Officer employed for a minimum of 5 years, qualified voter domiciled outside of Ward 10.
1 – Honorably discharged veteran of a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, qualified voter domiciled outside of Ward 10.
1 – Fireman that has served for a minimum of five years, qualified voter domiciled outside of Ward 10.
