Natural Gas Wellhead release in Golden Meadow Parish Update #2

Parish President Mitch Orgeron and our local emergency response partners continue to monitor and respond to the Natural Gas Wellhead Release in Golden Meadow. Federal and state agencies continue to respond to a natural gas wellhead release occurring on private land east of Highway 1 in Golden Meadow. Response crews remain on scene, with operations to secure the wellhead continuing through Wednesday. Specialized personnel from Cudd Well Control are conducting on-site assessments and implementing measures to safely secure the wellhead.
To support mitigation efforts, responders have deployed approximately 5,100 feet of hard boom and 106 bales of absorbent boom, with an additional 2,500 feet of boom enroute to the site. These containment and recovery systems are being actively monitored and adjusted as needed. A light surface sheen has been observed in the immediate area of the release. The sheen disperses and evaporates quickly, and there are no indications of significant environmental impact.
Continuous air and water monitoring are being conducted in and around the response area, including southeast of Golden Meadow, to ensure public safety. There is no current risk to the community of Golden Meadow.
Personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Louisiana Department of Conservation and Energy, Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinators Office, and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality remain on scene coordinating unified response operations.
