Lafourche Parish Councilmember spotlight! Councilman for District 7 Armand Autin

What are your priorities as a Councilmember?
A top priority for me has always been to ensure that our quality of life doesn’t go backwards which has been a challenge with Hurricane Ida due to squatters as well as abandoned/ derelict structures, vehicles and vessels. Significant progress was made in removing derelict vessels from the bayou a few years ago, but there continues to be a need for a strong voice to prevent the build up from recurring.
While I’m proud of the progress made in recent years with our new recreational facility and boat launch improvements, we still have a lot of work to do in recreation to include breaking ground on the next phase of the recreational complex as well as expansion of the elevated boardwalk.
I’m excited with the progress being made in the Morganza to the Gulf Project with drainage and flood protection so vital to our continued existence on the bayou. We must support that effort in any way possible.
What is your favorite thing about Lafourche Parish?
The people along the bayou have always been what has kept me here. With a large family and friend presence from one end of the parish to the other, I could never move away from the bayou.
What is a fun fact about yourself that many people don’t know? -or- What is your favorite hobby or thing to do in your free time?
I believe that many people would be surprised at how much time and money my family and I spend serving the community of Lafourche.
Additionally, I constantly inform people that my family had a camp in Fourchon when I was a kid, I currently reside in the middle of the parish, and I have a couple of Bachelor of Science Degrees from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux. I intentionally make this statement to impress upon everyone that the ENTIRE parish is dear to me!
