FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt/Part-time  

Location: Lockport Area

Two (2) positions available

Job Summary: Responsible for picking up, transporting, and serving meals from food vendor to Head Start classrooms/centers. Meals include breakfast, lunch, and snack. The duties also include recording food temperatures, cleaning kitchens, and maintaining necessary paper work.

Essential Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty at a high level. Not all possible tasks are included. Other additional departmental duties may be assigned by Center Director, a manager, or Director of the department.

• Check and respond to emails daily.

• Clocking in/out as scheduled on NOVAtime.

• Meet all deadlines set in place.

• Responsible for transporting, delivering, and serving breakfast, lunch, and snack meals from various vendors to Head Start classrooms/centers.

• Responsible for cleaning meal containers and returning to the various vendors when picking-up breakfast or lunch as per the vendors requests.

• Responsible for ensuring that the proper meal components are received from the vendor.

• Responsible for ensuring that appropriate sanitary practices are enforced while transporting, delivering, and serving meals.

• Responsible for checking food temperatures at every meal.

• Responsible for ensuring that all meals are provided with Head Start regulations and guidelines.

• Responsible for preparing and serving meals with assistance from the teachers as needed.

• Responsible for ensuring that daily meal counts correspond with the number of meals served and the number of meals on daily menu in KidKare.

• Responsible for completing attendance and daily menu in KidKare daily.

• Responsible for completing vendor count and daily totals on the “Meal Tech” SharePoint file daily.

• Responsible for communicating with Nutrition Assistant on children’s enrollment status including: children needing to be activated in KidKare, drops, transfers, and reentering children.

• Responsible for checking accuracy of paperwork and submitting report in KidKare at the end of the month. This includes:

o Mileage Reimbursement Forms

o Inventory of Supplies

o Classroom Sign-In Sheets

o Vendor Count Form

o Daily Totals Form

o Copy of Corrected Menu from vendor

• Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisors.

• Ensures absolute confidentiality with respect to information and records concerning children and staff.

• Sanitation:

o Must clean and sanitize the entire kitchen area, counters, tables, floors, etc. after every meal.

o Must clean all serving utensils and equipment after every meal.

o Must prepare garbage cans where the food is disposed of in kitchens and/or classrooms after every meal.

o Must rotate liquids in the refrigerators daily.

o Must clean and sanitize refrigerators daily and as needed.

o Must sanitize mops after use at the end of the day.

Peripheral Duties

• Attends all professional development related to Louisiana Licensing Regulations, Louisiana Board of Health, Head Start, CACFP, etc.

• Serves as necessary at school sites.

NOTE: All parish government employees in a declared emergency shall be considered essential personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other agencies, program participants, and the general public; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to coordinate activities, and ability to handle stressful situations.

Special Requirements

• A valid Louisiana Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

• Must have reliable transportation.

• Must maintain valid and up to date automobile insurance.

Tools and Equipment Used

• Computer skills including ChildPlus, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel; copy machine; fax machine; telephone; automobile.

Physical Demands

• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• The employee is required to lift and carry 25 pounds or more during the working day.

Selection Guidelines

• Formal application, rating of education and experience; oral interview and criminal background clearance, and reference check; job related tests may be required.
