$1.16 Million Dollar Marydale Grant Awarded

On March 26th, 2019, the Lafourche Parish Council approved a $1.16 million dollar contract between the State Division of Administration and Lafourche Parish Government to improve the Marydale Sewer System.  “We applied for the grant half way through the year in 2017 and submitted the final application in October of 2017 to the Office of Community Development to ask for assistance. Projects like this are vital to improving our infrastructure,” said President Cantrelle.

The Office of Community Development, Local Government Assistance Program (LGAP), awards grants to assist units of local government with funding for needed infrastructure and long-term capital improvements to fill gaps where there are no federal funds available.  During the application process, a list of projects was put together by the Administration.  The departments of Economic Development, Public Works and Solid Waste collaborated to identify projects most eligible to meet the grant stipulations.  The two projects deemed most suited for submittal were the Rita Waterlines and Marydale Sewer System improvement projects.  Both submittals included a severity package.

The notice of award for the Marydale Sewer System Improvements Project was received on March 15th, 2019, and shall be for a period of three years once executed by all parties.  “The Economic Development, Public Works and Solid Waste departments did an excellent job by pursuing and capturing these funds.  Their hard work will benefit the Marydale community for years to come,” said President Cantrelle.
