Parish President Cantrelle Cuts Red Tape, Authorizes East Side Drainage Improvements Project In South Lafourche Parish
“In my many years working with the Parish, I’ve never received a signed contract this quickly,” said Dustin Rabalais, Project Manager for T. Baker Smith.
The East Side Drainage Improvements Project will add more than nine miles of drainage dredging, add drainage canals, replace six cross-street pipes and five culverts and add a new pumping station with four pumps. It’s a large-scale project that addresses flooding issues between East 39th and East 94th street in Cut Off. In total, the project will cost about $5.2 million with state grants covering $4.7 million and the Parish and Drainage District covering the rest. “This project will get water out of neighborhoods at a faster rate by putting the proper infrastructure in place. It addresses flood control,” said President Cantrelle. During the first phase, dredging, canal building and culvert projects will be done. Phase two will put in the pumping station. “I’m making sure that all Districts in Lafourche Parish get the flood protection they desperately need while I am in office. It’s an expensive business, so the grant process is essential when managing major projects. In my first year we completed projects in North Lafourche, the second year Central Lafourche, and now we are addressing South Lafourche,” explained Cantrelle. “I am pleased to issue the notice to proceed to start this project,” shared Cantrelle.
