PRESS RELEASE: Parish President Thanks Workers After Weather Event
Mathews, LA – Lafourche Parish President Jimmy Cantrelle offered thanks Monday to the many parish employees who stepped up during the severe weather event late last week. “Thanks to our hard working parish employees including those in the Department of Public Works and the Department of Emergency Preparedness for their timely attention to all the issues that come up during severe weather. Their attention to detail keeps any problems from getting bigger,” Cantrelle said.
Cantrelle noted how proactive measures such as the pumping down of canals, having sandbags at the ready, employees on 24 hour call during critical situations and contact with the public all help to make these situations more manageable. “We had workers out surveying critical areas so we could move quickly if necessary,” he said. Cantrelle also issued thanks to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Craig Webre. “The sheriff’s office has always been a great partner to us in weather events and this one was no exception. They are always there when needed with great professionalism.”
“We prepare for the worst and hope for the best,” said Cantrelle, “and we will continue to invest and upgrade the drainage in the parish as funds allow. We will likely never prevent yard flooding but we are doing our best to keep the water out of people’s homes. It is important that we improve drainage every chance we get. With all of our great employees working hard as well as drainage improvements, we will be making progress in one of the most important needs facing Lafourche Parish.”
