HURRICANE SEASON 2016 – TIME TO GET PREPARED

Mathews, LA – The 2016 Atlantic basin hurricane season begins today and Lafourche Parish President Jimmy Cantrelle is urging all residents to get prepared should tropical weather head our way. “Now is the time to make sure everyone has a plan in case the need arises to evacuate or shelter in place,” Cantrelle said. “We want everyone to be prudent and safe if a storm heads our way.”

There are numerous resources citizens can turn to for help in storm planning. In addition to information provided on the Lafourche Parish website, www.lafourchegov.org, citizens can also visit www.getagameplan.org, www.noaa.gov/prepare and www.ready.gov/hurricanes.

Lafourche Parish emergency management officials also encourage citizens with special needs or individuals who will require transportation in an evacuation situation to call 985/537-7603 or
985/532-8174 to register their names and addresses for assistance and pick up.

“Many of our citizens are seasoned veterans when it comes to dealing with tropical weather, however, it’s never a bad idea to refresh what steps you and your family will take should a storm target this area,” Cantrelle said.

Hurricane season runs through November 30.
