Mathews, LA – The newest member of the Lafourche Parish Council is expected to be seated at next Tuesday’s council meeting.  James Bourgeois, a Republican from Raceland, won election last week to the District 5 seat.  He is a graduate of Thibodaux High School and also holds a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University.

Serving in various capacities with the U.S. Army, U.S. Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves since 1987, Bourgeois currently holds the position of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves.  In addition to also holding a degree from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, he served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and worked extensively in the aftermath and recovery from Hurricane Katrina.  Bourgeois is also a small business owner, serving as a general contractor.  “I’m excited to get going and I look forward to the challenges ahead and how we can make our parish more prosperous for everyone,” he said.

Parish President Jimmy Cantrelle and Council Chairman Jerry Lafont both welcomed Bourgeois to parish government.  “Our administration looks forward to working with Mr. Bourgeois to move our parish forward.  Working together, we can achieve many things for our parish,” Cantrelle said.  Council Chairman Jerry Lafont welcomed his newest colleague as well by noting that “I look forward to working with James and I know that we all have the same objective in mind, to help make Lafourche Parish a better place to live, work and play.”
