According to the Greater Lafourche Port Commission and Port Fourchon Harbor Police, the Corps of Engineers dredge is expected to arrive in Port Fourchon this week (Aug. 17-21) to begin maintenance dredging in Belle Pass.

The dredge will be working approximately 3-4 weeks to complete work on the lower channel, with an additional 1-2 weeks on the optional work further up the channel.

Weather and traffic could extend this time frame further. The Port Commission and Port Fourchon Harbor Police are working with the Corps and dredging contractor Weeks Marine to ensure that this dredging project goes smoothly, with as little interruption to vessel traffic as possible.

For the duration of the project, the dredging work area will be designated as a safety zone within 500-feet of the dredge. Mariners must travel at their lowest safe speed to minimize wake and ensure operational safety.

Please be aware of the numerous work and support vessels associated with this project as well as floating and submerged dredge pipelines depositing dredged material west of Belle Pass.

Expect intermittent channel closures and some delay in vessel movements through the dredging area. Contact the dredge or Port Fourchon Harbor Police at VHF channel 13 for passing arrangements. Harbor Police Marine Patrol will be on scene to facilitate movements through the safety zone when necessary.
