Waterways Barrier Permits

Section 15:82 of the Lafourche Parish Code of Ordinances refers to the permitting requirements for Barriers across Man-Made Canals and Natural Waterways.

While it is perfectly legal to construct a barrier on private property once obtaining the necessary permits from the United States Army Corps of Engineers and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (see Coastal Use Permits for more information), the Lafourche Parish Government requires further documentation in the form of requiring that applicants also obtain a Waterways Barrier Permit from the Lafourche Parish Council.

There is NO COST entailed in obtaining the permit.  Please reference the Lafourche Parish Code of Ordinances for details.  Please note, however that because of amendments to ordinances, it is strongly advised that you contact the Lafourche Parish Government Office of Coastal Zone Management at (985) 632-4666 or by email at czm@lafourchegov.org when applying for a Waterways Barrier Permit.
