Saturday, August 30, 2008 For more information contact: Name: Brennan Matherne Phone: (985) 537-7603 Mandatory Evacuation Ordered for ALL of Lafourche Parish Due to the threat of Hurricane Gustav, the Lafourche Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness has ordered a MANDATORY EVACUATION for the ENTIRE Parish effective immediately. Hurricane Gustav is currently classified as a major hurricane as it passes over Cuba and into the Gulf of Mexico. The latest advisory from the National Weather Service shows the eye of Hurricane Gustav reaching the Louisiana coastline around 6:00 P.M. Monday evening. The storm is also forecast to possibly reach Category 5 status while in the Gulf of Mexico. NO shelters will be opened in Lafourche Parish. Instead, marshalling points have been set up at the Larose Civic Center, Central Lafourche High School and Thibodaux High School. Any resident that has signed up to be transported from their home will be brought to one of these marshalling points to be transported out of the Parish. Residents who drive themselves to one of these marshalling points will also be transported out of the Parish. Buses will transport all evacuees to a shelter to be determined. All marshalling points will be shut down for the day around 7:00 P.M. tonight. Any resident planning to drive themselves to one of the marshalling points needs to arrive no later than 6:00 P.M.
